Tax residency is about where you actually live, not your visa or citizenship — if Australia is your home, choose resident (even on a work visa).

I have a HELP/HECS debt
Answer "No" only if you have no private hospital cover. The Medicare Levy Surcharge then applies to residents earning over $105,000 — 1% to $123,000, 1.25% to $164,000, then 1.5%. Assumes single with no dependants; your actual MLS income can also include reportable fringe benefits and net investment losses.

Common questions

How is my take-home pay calculated?
We apply the 2026-27 resident tax brackets, the Low Income Tax Offset, the 2% Medicare levy and, if selected, your HELP/HECS repayment. Superannuation is shown separately because your employer pays it on top of your salary.
Is super included in my salary?
Usually not — an advertised salary is normally the base, with 12% super paid on top. If your offer is quoted as a package that includes super, tick 'Salary includes super' and we will separate the two.
Why is my average tax rate lower than my bracket?
Because Australia taxes income in slices — only the portion in each bracket is taxed at that rate. So someone on $100,000 sits in the 30% bracket but pays an average rate closer to 20%, as the lower slices keep their lower rates.
Will my pay match my payslip exactly?
It will be very close. Employers use PAYG withholding tables that round per pay cycle, so a payslip can differ by a few dollars. Any over-withholding comes back as a refund at tax time.
